Best Postcrossing Supplies for New Postcrossers

Since Joining Postcrossing, I’ve send hundreds of postcards and tried countless supplies. Here’s the supplies that I use for postcrossing everyday and have stood the test of time

The Best Supplies to Protect Your Postcards

Waterproof Pens and Inks

It’s no surprise that postcards take a lot of abuse on their journeys across the globe. Unlike letters, which are protected by an envelope, postcards are subject to the elements. Using a waterproof pen or waterproof ink can ensure that the address, postcard ID, and your message remain smudge free.

Platinum Carbon Ink for Fountain Pens – $25

Waterproof ink should be part of your postcrossing supplies.
Platinum Carbon Black Ink

If you already own a fountain pen then try out a bottle of Carbon Ink from Japanese manufacturer Platinum. This ink is some of the darkest, most beautiful black ink I’ve ever owned, and it’s fully waterproof. One thing to note, however, is that it does take a few minutes to try.

Ohto Graphic Liner Pens – $3

If you don’t have a fountain pen, the Ohto Fine Liner pen is a wonderful tool to add to your postcrossing supplies. It’s affordable, easy to find, and comes in a variety of different thicknesses. I personally like the 0.3mm sized option, and it’s the pen I use to write most of my postcards.

The Best Supplies to Store your Postcards

Once you start receiving postcards, you’ll want a good way to store and protect them.

BCW 3-Pocket Photo Page$8

These postcard sleeves are clear on both sides (allowing you to see the picture and the stamps) and fit in a standard 3-ring binder. Most postcards will fit into the 4×6 sleeves, however you should pick up a few 5×8 sleeves for oversized postcards.

A Three Ring Binder or Photo Album

Of course, you’ll also need a binder. I use an old photo album that I found at goodwill, but any old binder will work. Just make sure that you pick out one that’s thick enough to store all your postcrossing postcards.

Postcrossing Supplies to make your writing better

Rayman Easy See Clear Ruler – $2

A clear ruler makes it easy to write in a straight line

Somehow I’ve never been great at writing in a straight line. I love this inexpensive clear ruler because it doesn’t prevent you from seeing what you’ve already written.

And of course the most important postcrossing supply of all – good postcards
